Achieving ultimate goals together

A Mother’s Joyous Success

Joy never imagined being a single parent, but after she and her husband divorced, Joy had to provide for her children alone. Joy worked two jobs and decided that she could earn more money if she returned to college. Joy tried her best to juggle work, school, and raising a family, but the adjustment was overwhelming.

Tired and stressed, Joy found relief with an occasional after work drink; soon Joy was drinking at home every night. One day, Joy experienced a new way to escape; she began to use drugs excessively. Joy stopped going to work and stood by as the guy she dated sold her belongings for drugs. Joy’s situation continued to spiral out of control. On the verge of losing herself and her children, Joy’s last hope was Liberation Programs.

“I learned that I wasn’t alone. I learned about forgiveness and
not to give up on myself.”

Joy was referred to Liberation’s Families in Recovery program where she and her children would receive aid in a safe and nurturing environment. Joy spent days crying; she felt unworthy and ashamed that she neglected her children. Joy’s counselors comforted her and explained that she had a disease, and that addiction was treatable. With group therapy, Joy realized she wasn’t alone, and learned how other women in similar situations were able to take back their lives. In time, Joy regained her confidence; and with a renewed determination, Joy worked with a counselor to create her recovery plan.

Joy achieved her ultimate goal. She graduated from the Families in Recovery program, and with the support she received from aftercare, she was able to earn a college degree. Joy, now drug and alcohol free, has a career which enables her to both provide for her children and to spend quality time with them.
